Website Templates

I don't have a website. I've checked around and there are companies that offer different templates/designs that all you have to do is add your information.

They are not too terribly expensive and look pretty good. Are these a good idea?

Re: Website Templates

An advantage of many template systems is the ready made design and content.

Some template systems however are getting dinged pretty hard in the Google recently because of "Duplicate Content."

A custom design would not have this problem.

I'm curious, why do these register as "duplicate content" if the text is different for each page?

Duplicate content relates to all code on a page. Text" is only one element of the page and on many pages only a "small" element.

Re: Website Templates

Do you think giving each page a unique title and anchors will help any?

At the very least, each page in a website should have a unique:
  • Title
  • Description
  • First Paragraph

OK, <title> codes. That's clear. Do both description and 1st paragraph fall under the category of text?

Here is an example of a the basic code for a standard HTML page:

PHP Code:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
<
head>
<
title>Your Page Title</title>
<
meta name="description" content="Your Page Description" >
<
meta name="keywords" content="Your Keywords" >
<
meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
</
head>
<
body
<
h1>First Heading</h1>
<
p>First Paragraph</p>
</
body>
</
html
