Hi John,
Inside Sales consists of taking the responsibility of generating sales for a company. The reason I ask about Sales Consulting is because there is so much advice out there that it makes my head spin! I have an idea of what I want to do but, I want to learn all that I can about sales so as to acquire more knowledge in this field. I hope this helps and I appreciate your comment. Chris
Being responsible for generating sales is far too vague.
Is this phone solicitation, retail sales, working from a wholesale outlet? Does the prospect come to you? Do you provide products or services your prospect needs to stay in business? Are you dealing with hard or soft sales? Are you cold calling or working from a "warm" list of past customers?
My focus is for you to distinguish what you are getting now and what you will be missing from such a career shift. Then to look at what you will be gaining with such a shift.
We all function best under certain circumstances and environments and would be severely hampered under wrong circumstances and environments. This is what I am after first--then learn how to get there.
As a once financial recruiter, I learned the difference between having the talent for a certain occupation and not having the temperament for that same occupation.
The question is not can I do the job but will I be happy? Being happy does not come from a to-do list.

The reason for the head spin is due to the enormous number of Marketing and Consultant training firms available. Each one will set you up with course material and certify you as a representative.

For me this is not enough information. Could you please be more specific in what "inside sales" is for you and what do envision a Sales Consultant does. -John Voris
