What is your experience with Public Speaking? (I cried on stage once!)
You know, when I first started out in public speaking, my biggest fear was CRYING on stage!
(and I actually cried...)
...and I'm a tough looking guy who used to play professional baseball... LOL.
So... here's a bit about me and I'd love to get to know more about you :)
When I was in 10th grade I was asked to give a presentation at a sports banquet.
I was terrified of getting on stage to present to my peers. I suffered from every anxiety imaginable prior to the presentation and much to my dismay...
I ACTUALLY CRIED in front of all of my teammates, coaches and friends.
I was mortified.
Which is also why I'm not going to even mention my real full name for now, in case my FB friends start googling me... :)
The irony is... now I actually make a living as a PAID professional motivational speaker and I travel around the country speaking to young adults!
You see, after that presentation, I promised myself I would never go through that experience again (my end goal).
So, throughout college and shortly after I took every opportunity to learn about public speaking and volunteer to get on stage whenever possible...
I had to use every trick in the book to try and overcome my fear, primarily: preparation, planning and practice.
And I've learned a tons of ways over the year to really distill this down so your presentations are powerful and effective.
I'm going to think about it and maybe write up some new tips if you guys want them on the forum, ask me anything...
Also here's 3 quick tips for anyone who wants to learn presenting in front of an audience:
1. Who is my audience?
2. Why am I presenting to them?
3. What is my end goal of this presentation? What do I want to accomplish?
These 3 questions will really help you get a better roadmap for your presentation.
I'd love to see how I can contribute on here and help other public speakers (or those interested in public speaking) grow. And no, I'm not looking to sell you anything (nor do I have anything to sell).
Just want to get a better idea of what your challenges and frustrations are, so if you have a minute, I'd love your reply on the following questions:
1. What is your biggest frustration and challenge with public speaking so far?
2. What have you tried to solve this frustration/challenge? Why do you think it didn't work?
3. What is your end goal? Are you wanting to do this as a hobby or to take it seriously?
And finally - why are you on this site? What would help contribute to you and help you grow and how can we grow together as a community?
Also please don't hesitate to drop me a PM or message if you need any tips or advice on speaking. I'd be happy to help anyone out, just for the fun of it.
