Is telesales just another name for telemarketing?
The words are sometimes used interchangeably, but there is a subtle difference.
Telemarketing usually involves a prospecting process, where a broad range of people or businesses are contacted in an attempt to generate leads or find qualified prospects.
Telesales involves a selling process with a more narrow scope of apparently qualified buyers. It often, but not always, involves sales conversations that originate from inbound calls, or leads generated from requests for information in a direct response marketing campaign. Also, calls made to existing buyers for the purpose of doing more business would often fall under telesales.
Many people who are effective in telemarketing would not be as good at telesales because they lack the flexibility needed when they find themselves outside of the boundaries of their script. - by Gary A Boye
