What is the difference between active and passive selling?
I'm not familiar with the terms, but I believe they could be appropriately used in some expository writings on specific areas in sales.
One might think that a vending machine could be called passive selling. But when you accept the fact that marketing and selling frequently overlap into a rather gray area, you might also accept that decisions on placement of the vending machine would be quite active.
The expression "order taking" has frequently been used in demeaning fashion among salespeople, and, I guess that could be categorized, in their eyes, as passive. But, putting oneself in a position to reap the benefit of that order taking is certainly often a very active process.

The term, "selling process" is merely an arbitrary term.
