How do you feel about persuasion?

I don't want to play.

SalesGuy, I feel like you are interrogating me. No one could be that interested in hearing elaborabion on every statement I made. If you think what I said is off topic or off the mark, just say so. You have been around SP for quite some time, as have I. I have never claimed to have any great expertise on sales. In fact I am here primarily to learn from those who have knowledge to share.

Perhaps you are correct to question me about my example. Maybe there is nothing hard sell about getting someone to buy a piece of land located 300 miles away--sight unseen, from a stranger over dinner.

In light of this, I respectfully withdraw my comments from this thread. It doesn't make a hill of beans to me whether persuasion and hard sell go hand in hand or are diametrically opposed.

Actually, I am very interested in hearing your answers. My interest is not in your expertise but instead your perspective. From your comments I had the impression that you were throwing the baby out with the water.

I also had the impression that you were interested in learning how to step up your game. With that said, sometimes to reach the next level we need to re-examine our current beliefs.

What kind of persuasion are they talking about? It sounds interesting.

Evil mind bending persuasion. The kind that makes you go out and buy things you don't want or need.

OK SalesGuy, if you were not mocking me or picking on me, then I apologize for my reaction.

Truthfully, I don't remember the details that well. I had that job for 6 months in 1988. That was my first and last sales job until recently. I did and said what they told me to do... and I wrote deals. I had no sales experience--only charm and the ability to follow directions. All the reps gradually had the same problem...deals that fell apart on the back end that caused charge-backs to eat away at commission checks.

On the bright side, I never had to cook or do the dishes.

If you asked the average Joe what persuasion was about I bet the answer would be pretty close to what I posted.
