What kind of music do you listen to?

I have never heard of that "ringing" before. It sounds terrible. I'm sorry to hear that Mitch.

One final question for you...I've SEEN your writing. Have you ever combined 2 of your favorite things? Do you write music?
I've removed myself from television and music for years listening only to the sounds of the world and my thoughts - very nice.

The ringing is annoying but I'm seeking a higher purpose and use for it.

I can write musical scores but I don't - I'm not motivated in that direction but I do organize arrangements with guitar and hand and lyrics I've learned or written. I do that very casually and occasionally these days.

Let me get this straight...the author of:
"Whether calm and cool or passionately absorbed - there's something compelling in genuine communication that is for the benefit of other people, that takes nothing from other people, that gives and seeks only completion."

(only a very small excerpt from a very expressive soliloquy)...writes music only occasionally and rarely using words?

I find this puzzling.

I don't understand what's puzzling or the connection between my soliloquy and what I just posted about music - tell me the connection or contradiction so I can maybe address it - I really don't understand what these two posts have in common that would be puzzling.

I'm sorry. Perhaps I misunderstood your post about writing music.

The correlation between these to things is this: those were the words of someone who has a lot to say. Clearly you have a passion for writing or you would not have written that post.

Also, clearly you have a passion for music. It seemed natural to me that you would combine these 2. The way your worded your post on writing music didn't leave me with the impression that you did much of it and I found that surprising.

My reason for this observation is because I love to express myself with words. At one point I aspired to be a writer. But to put my words to music is the ultimate culmination of my creativity. Satisfying in ways difficult to articulate.

I was curious if you were this way also.

For many years I wrote - filled up reams of paper with poetry, short stories, songs, odds & ends - observations, etc. I learned how to write doing that - I taught high school journalism for ten years. I had some things published - yesterday a Point of View I wrote was printed in our local news paper, the last one was maybe a year ago.

I stopped writing with intensity near the end of the 80s and haven't picked it up again. At the same time I stopped reading with the same intensity - two decades of that was enough. I also stopped performing locally at that same time.

Then I did other things. I still do all the above but very casually and spontaniously - mostly to entertain myself.

Someday I may write more fluently again - maybe not.

How about you - do you still aspire to be a writer? Talk about that. You're not afraid to be candid - that's important if you're a writer. What kind of writer - what did you aspire to succeed at and why not now?

No, although I have a 300-page manuscript I may finish someday. I love to write music more, but I have not written anything beyond sales text for my marketing materials in the past 3+years. I have no venue (or time) for music beyond indulging by listening to music at the end of the day... but I usually just fall immediately to asleep.

Do what you can to keep the fire burning - make a space for your writing - find a way to keep that going - don't let it fade.

It doesn't have to be a lot - but intensity can come in short bursts or keep it casual and flowing - just don't let it dry up.

I cannot write or sing, at this time, but it will never dry up--only if I am dead. Thanks for the positive thoughts, Mitch.
