I bought a new laptop and it came with a wi fi card. One of my neighbors must have a wi fi router because out of the box the laptop had no problem connecting to the Internet. The connection seems pretty fast too.

I use dial up because I can get it free through the local university--it seems to work fine for everything I need.

My first modem was a blazing 1200bps. I remember watching indvidual letters pop up on the screen one by one, line by line, and thinking "Wow...this is fantastic technology!" Now I am surfing at warp speed on a cable modem, and sometimes I get impatient with that. I guess I get spoiled easily...
