12 Weeks? Is that a correspondence course or some type of self-study program?

I have a conference call 2 times per week for 7-weeks for 14 total sessions (Sorry, I don't know why I thought it was 12 weeks, so I double checked). Each session is between 90 minutes and 2 hours long.

In each session we learn some new things and review some things we have already learned. The idea is that we are supposed to be applying things little by little and ask questions as we experience different situations. They told us that all the theory and statistics don't mean crap unless we can make it work for us in the real world. So they try to help us learn from each other as we go so we can be successful.

How many others participate in the call? Is the training material much different than the book? Does the program teach you how to market your services or do you simply call from a list of targets?

My particular class is small, only 3 people. But it is nice because all of us are financial advisors so we get more industry specific. I think the typical class is closer to 8 or 10 people.

The training material is a lot different than the book. There are a lot of subtle points that I would have never picked up on just by reading the book, and those subtle points can make a huge difference in your effectivness. Basically its a text book vs. a story book.

The program does talk about marketing and different things you can do to market. The class focuses on calling targeted prospects because that is statistically the most effective method. You can add other facets to your strategy, but the effectiveness depends on how much money you can make per sale to guage whether the investment is worth it.

I have taken a few courses and attending some seminars. I have also invested in different CD's on closing the sale. I like to listen to what other people have done to further their careers. I don't necessarily do exactly what they do, but I take different aspects of their techniques and apply them in my own style. I don't think it's possible to learn too much in the field of sales. There are always ways to better yourself.

Sounds like a good strategy, csimpson
