I use "mydomain.com" and do the 301 redirect myself via .htaccess.

If you find that your domains are being redirected any way other than a 301 redirect you might contact the host and ask them to address the issue.

I'm waiting for a response from my host...What is .htaccess?

An .htaccess file is simply a text file containing Apache Server directives. Here is a link.

Through .htaccess I can block IP addressess from a website, password protect directories, redirect URLs, and more.

Re: Domain Name

Thanks, SalesPro. I will give that a more thorough read, this afternoon. At first glance, some of it was over my head. Would it be difficult for a novice? I have only basic "need to know" knowlege...In other words, I'm not a computer person by trade, but am willing to learn how to do something when it is useful. (ie: I figured out how to code a page with HTML when I wanted to start modifying my own pages, etc.)

Re: Domain Name

Cathie, your sites are on Microsoft-IIS/5.0 Servers not Apache so .htaccess isn't an option.

With that said, I noticed the Non-WWW version of your URLs are not being redirected to the WWW version. Here is one of Jeffrey's posts that explains how to do a 301 Redirect with your server [IIS].

I noticed Jeffrey had started a "Website Review" forum. You might consider posting your site(s) there. Jeffrey's been able to get this forum to the top positions on Microsofts Search Engine for some super competitive terms/phrases such as "Sales, Sales Training and Sales Marketing" so I'm sure he and a couple others here could help you out if your interested.

Pardon my stupidity, but what does that mean, Salespro ?

Yes, kudos to you Jeffrey! That is how I found this wonderful place! I was proud of my #1 on MSN for "Pizza Coupons," but you have me beat, hands down. I think I will be the first brave soul to put my sites on the website review because I have found the people on this forum to be extremely helpful.

How is customer support? I am thinking of moving my account.

Re: Domain Name

Another great registrar but expensive is www.networksolutions.com, but I have all my domains registered with aplus.net.

Aplus.net has great 24 hour support, has people manning the chats all the time, and their techs are good.

I remember when they were the ONLY registrar--Thank goodness for free enterprise!

I will check into Aplus, too. I hate to make a switch (pure laziness) but I am not happy with the customer service at my dnbuy.com. I like the convenience of their system for registering and managing domains, but they cannot be reached if something goes wrong (which is not that often), but it is infuriating.

All my domains stopped forwarding for about 4-5 hours--which wasn't great, but my real complaint was their complete lack of communication during that time. First I sent an email. After an hour or two without a response, I had to send a fax (because they do not offer telephone support). Still no response. Finally later that day the problem was resolved, but at no time was there any communication or acknowlegment.

Afterwards I sent them an email telling them them that they need to communicate with their customers during down times because not knowing if anyone is even aware of the problem or working on the problem or when it will be resolved was excruiating when all my customers' websites were disabled. If they had only acknowledged the problem and apologized--even at that late point--I would have given them another chance because overall, I am happy with their product.

Their response? Silence. Now I am back in my comfort zone and don't really feel like moving, but I feel I should not reward them with my business. I don't want to suffer like that again. Next time it happens I might have 100s or even 1000s of customers without websites.

Maybe I should move this to the customer service thread!
