Internet Service Provider

I'm new to the Internet. I've been told I need to find an Internet Service Provider [ISP]. What should I look for in an Internet Service Provider?

An internet service provider is who provides you access to the Internet. Personally, I would look for a reputable company with high speed connections.

I use a local internet service provider but there are some like MSN who are Nationwide.

I agree, these are the two major items to look for. COX is my internet service provider. I just just now tested the connection speed and here are the results:

4.644 Mbps

That's what I'm talking about.

WobblyBox,

You have to decide what you will use the ISP for. Do you need a fast connection? How much time will you spend online?

You have a choice between dial-up service (slow), DSL (faster) and Cable (fastest). The latter two are more expensive and may not be available in your building/house. Look at your monthly budget (the choices are $10-$50/month) and your needs and go from there. Once you decide which of the 3 you'd like to proceed, you can take your research to the next step and pick your actual provider.

I plan to put in a call to a few internet service providers next week. Thanks for the great information.
