I still see both. Many of the dvds and cds that I buy on Ebay are used.

I have heard that eBay isn't the "garage sale" style (used/hard to find) of venue as it used to be. Now it's more "New" items.

Right. The garage sale type items usually end without bids or at the opening bid. It is unfortunatel. Ebay has, unfortunately, made many things that used to be rare finds, commonplace in the world-wide market.

Antiques, for example. It's an easy-to-find swap meet of the world. But, fakes abound.

That's sad to hear, Eerie. What type of items do you sell? I haven't used eBay in a few years, but it used to be loads of fun searching for different items.

Almost bought a Prada purse a while back, but I was hesitant because there was no way of knowing if it was the real deal before spending the cash.
I have mostly sold new, designer clothing, but the trends change so fast - what sells for good money today - might not sell at the opening bid next week. It depends on what Angelina Jolie was spotted wearing, or what Oprah recommended on her TV show. To the seller, it means taking a risk on every sale. (Of having inventory they can't unload.)

If you want to buy a Prada purse for an excellent price - go to Amazon.com. They sell Prada purses at the most reasonable prices I have ever seen; actually they are lowering overall market value.

But I'm sure they are selling authentic goods.

Unfortunately, ebay fees are a real factor in whether or not the little guy can sell much. If you run an auction, starting it at the min. opening bid (price wise,) of .99 - that's .20. Now, everyone adds a gallery picture - that's another .35.

So, it's .55 to start something at .99. God forbid it ends at the opening bid. If it does - you lose money on the item, ebay fees and paypal fees. Hopefully you''ve charged enough for shipping, or you'll be paying for that, too.

And, this is a minimum style ad with one picture - additional pictures are .15 each. A designer look costs another dime and you can add as many features as you have money.

There is a final value fee, also, but on a 0.99 sale, it's negligible.

I know, those fees have really kept me away from selling there. The few things that I have sold there, went for very little, and then the fees made up for almost any profit.

Thanks for the tip Eerie - I'm generally not a "designer label" person, but Prada bags and shoes are somehow the exception.

So, besides Amazon, are there other good, reliable online auctions sites out there that you know of?

Cool

I stopped by eBay last night to check out a few things. I didn't really see much that excited me. What I *did* see was mentioned here before... very high shipping charges. I was a seller there a couple of years ago and I know what it costs to ship certain weights. $8.99 to mail a $1.00 paperback is NOT a good bargain.

Okay, so does anyone know of an online auction that may be where eBay was 2 or 3 years ago, but still reliable? Are any of you selling elsewhere?

I completely understand. I'm a Prada girl myself.

As far as good, reliable auction sites - HMM. I used to sell in bulk on Liquidation.com, but their business practices are a bit unethical, in my experience. And, I did about $20,000 in business with them one year. They go through sales managers like I go through underwear. That's always a bad sign.

No, and I don't anticipate there every being any real competition for ebay.

I still do sell on ebay - and I'm still a power seller, but it's harder and harder to find things that make an easy profit - and I'm tired of competing with drop shippers.

I've bought and sold things on eBay before, but I don't believe I would buy a car, home or land on eBay unless it was close to home so that I could go look at it first.
