It's been my experience so far that the traffic I'm generating to my website either isn't of the compulsive spending type, or I'm not presenting my affiliate opportunities in the best way.
For example, American Idol is one of the top traffic draws to the site. We recently received pre-release copies of the Idol Encores CD, wrote up a solid review, and included links to purchase the CD at Amazon (including image and text-based links). In all of our other Idol-related articles, I put links to the review. The review itself got a good amount of traffic, but resulted in only two sales of the CD.
Now, I've got other affiliates besides Amazon, but that's the most recent example I can think of. I refuse to cover the site in irrelevant ads, nor will I consider using pop-up or pop-under advertising.
I've read and re-read a lot of marketing articles and manuals, but I'm still at a loss as to how to convert my steady traffic into at least enough cash flow to pay for my extra bandwidth each month!
Does anyone have sage advice or a useful link to point out? Thank you!!
