Hello from Denver, Colorado...I'm new to the forum and new to sales. I've spent the last 30 years in politics and public policy and have now made a career change, learning the art of sales.

I'm currently a Sr. Consultant for a career transition marketing firm; serving my sales "apprenticeship."

Look forward to learning from the group here.

Thanks all for the warm welcome...

...I look forward to learning from you all. I've been mightily impressed with the depth and breadth of knowledge on this forum. I must say, it's somewhat intimidating.

Welcome to the community Scott. It can be somewhat intimidating but don't let that stop you from posting.

Welcome to the community Scott. Does your company provide formal sales training during your apprenticeship?

SalesGuy...Just a couple of stories; I'd have to change the names to protect the guilty.

Calvin...Training? Sales training? Our company gave us a three day "orientation" (here's the service; here's what we charge; it basically sells itself; if you can't sell it, you haven't created value with the client); and throws us into the drink to see if we will swim. No sales in the first month, they cut your leads. Survival of the fittest: You sell, you can stay. You sell lots, we'll let you do what you want. Am I sounding a tad cynical? Sorry; evidently sales are down the last couple of months and the rules are changing daily. I have to recall my political days and the rules of engagement: Everything is fair in love and war, and politics is war. One reason I went to the policy side.
