Is it really worth becoming a member of the "Better Business Bureau" and if so why?

I'm not a fan of the BBB.

Seriously, what's the advantage?

I guess if someone calls up the BBB and you're a member they extoll the virtues of your business?

I don't believe that is the case.

You might consider asking your local BBB this question. I've asked the question before and wasn't excited with the answer.

As I remember it, there are two (2) benefits of interest. First, if you are a member you can provide information on your company in the event someone asks. Second, if someone asks you can say you're a member.

That was about it.

Re: Better Business Bureau

I recently contacted the BBB and asked about member benefits. Here is a brief summary:

  • Active members have "Member Status Reports" that give contact information, customer experience information, etc.
  • The BBB has a directory of active members on their website that is searchable by type of business.
  • The BBB has local "consumer guides" that list active members.
  • Active members are allowed to use the BBB Logo in their advertising.
  • Active members receive a BBB window decal and wall plaque.
  • The BBB provides arbitration for consumer disputes.
The two (2) main advantages I found to becoming a member was being listed in the directories and aligning/associating myself with the BBB.
