is there any kind of concept of yellow pages on internet , we get lots of those at our local book shop , but is there any kind of online yellow page site

Just go to the main site of yellowpages.com and they will show links to the national online versions of the yellowpages.

Why would someone on the internet (a buyer) search superpages or yellow pages over using google or yahoo?

When searching for a local product or service there is nothing more refined and relevent (by the way this is what search engines pride themselves on) then local search and yellowpages. It is specifically targeted to local businesses that service the local areas. Starting today superpages.com will be sorting content based on relevency and not only ranking businesses based on the highest bidder. This is a huge change for the YP online site.

Do a search on google for restaurants in your local area and compare the results.

Search engine results contain content other then Local businesses that provide a product or service..... superpages.com does not.

why do you think sites like local.com; which also owns the proxy domain www.google.local.com; and sites like google local, yahoo local etc etc where created by the big search engines? As much as they feel yellow pages is a dinosaur they still need yellow pages for relevency vs Keyword search!
