Does cold calling destroy your status as a business equal?

In a book I'm reading it says cold calling destroys your status as a business equal. What do you think? Also, does cold calling make it seem like you need the business?

The act of cold calling alone doesn't destroy your status as a business equal that depends on how you handle the call.

I have been looking up more information on cold calling. The trainers blow hot or cold but not warm. Weird.
