Google Sitemaps

Recently Google started to allow Sitemap submissions via XML or text file.

Re: Google Sitemaps

Why leave spidering to chance when you can tell Google exactly what you have and where to find it?

For anyone who isn't already submitting his/her site map to Google I would highly recommend it.

How does this differ from submitting the main page? Isn't the site map spidered in this process?

From Google's Site Map Help:

Please note that the Sitemap Protocol supplements, but does not replace, the crawl-based mechanisms that search engines already use to discover URLs. By submitting a Sitemap (or Sitemaps) to a search engine, you will help that engine's crawlers to do a better job of crawling your site.

Re: Google Sitemaps

I have another site that Google "rarely" visited even though it is strong in the SERPs and PR. I submitted an XML site map and now Google swamps the site.
