Probably because we're used to dealing with salespeople, so our guard is down. We don't play as much defense...or perhaps its just pity.

That seems reasonable.

Sorry if this was posted after page 4 where I stopped reading, but every time I hear this quote I am reminded of a quote by zig ziglar.

When asked whether or not a really good sales professional can sell ice to eskimos his response was what "Not at all. What you have just described is the definition of a con man!"

In general, I agree with Ziglar. However, there will always creative, overly optimistic and/or desperate salespeople who can figure out a legitimate scenario where it actually might happen.

Or, perhaps they may just have too much time on their hands. Time when they could be prospecting and selling.

I think if this thread about the ice cubes should continue for a few more months or years, we should at least all agree to use the word "Inuit" which means "people" and is more correct than "Eskimo" which some find derogatory. I hereby apologize for my use of the word.

I didn't realize some people find the word "Eskimo" derogatory. I thought Eskimo was considered an acceptable term used for a group of people living in the Arctic.

Here is a link that might shed some light on the use of the term "Eskimo", http://www.answers.com/topic/eskimo

I seriously doubt that I could sell ice cubes to Eskimos. One.....I don't want to go to Alaska at this time. lol.

I'm not an experienced sales person and wouldn't know how to convince someone that they needed any trendy ice cubes or ice cubes of any kind.

I wouldn't even ATTEMPT to sell ice cubes to an eskimo. I would show him the value of buying a refrigerator/freezer with an automatic ice cube maker so he'd never have to buy ice cubes again!
