Are internet counters accurate?

Anyone with firsthand experience with this? I've witnessed where the counter went down by a small amount and came back up and when I had a resume posted, the counter still showed employers looking up my resume for days after I deactivated it.

Page counters are usually simple scripts that track how often a specific page has been accessed. The only reason I can think of why you would see a lower count is if your browser was storing a prior page version.
