Have you ever sold more than you expected?

Sometimes things happen you can't readily explain (which did happen to me at first).

I tried a sales tip which jumped my sales 48% (I was already doing about 4 times quota at the time). The tip? - to announce the name of your company ahead of your own to let your caller know she reached the right place (I had it in reverse giving my name first).

Being a student of mail order and direct marketing, I knew that when your sales moves up over 15%, there has to be a darn good reason for it (I'm well acquainted with thousands of financial statements from D&B and other sources and it's unusual to see sales go up more than 10% from one year to the next).

The coup de grace came when I found out that callers were greeted electronically by a recording announcing the name of the company so my announcement really meant nothing. I had a mystery to solve which I finally figured out and it took a six-month experiment to confirm my greatest discovery which I'm scheduling for release next year.

I didn't know there were companies that allowed their employees to answer the phone any other way than company first. I guess they are out there.

I'll have to wait for the discovery but what was the mystery?

"What about the 48% jump in sales?" That was the mystery which moved me from doing 3.9X quota to a 5.7x quota level of sales for practically no good reason until I deeply analyzed the situation and had to think outside of the box to resolve the puzzle.

I did follow the tip, but the basis for the tip wasn't the reason for my sales jump.
