When I was actively working in commission flooring sales and I would listen to all the other salespeople complaining and bitching about this and that and how bad their sales were, my eyes would get wide and a smile would cross my face.
Instead of joining the complaining, I saw an opportunity. Since my co-workers are sitting around complaining about how bad the walk-in and phone-in traffic was, I decided I would ramp up my personal marketing, become more aggresive in prospecting, and 'step outside the box' and aggressively cold call on potential customers.
You cannot expect to be successful in a commission retail sales position if you rely on walk-in and phone-traffic to earn your living. You must operate as a micro-business within your company and run your personal business as if it's you own.
You can't just quit your job because of negative co-workers, you will encounter them no matter where you work. Simply decide you will outwork them. It's a choice of attitude. Will you join the crowd and bitch and moan, or will take action and stand out from the 'crowd?' ...Coach Doug
