Sales Certification is it really important?

Sales Training »
I was on a couple of different Sales Associations websites NASP and UPSA in which they offered their own Sales Certification? Because sales is constantly changing is it really important to have a sales certification, is it a great benefit or a scam? -llkooljaay

I do see the value of continued education but I personally do not see any value in being "certified" by either of those two organizations. -AZBroker

So, would you agree that a sales certification is not a valuable certifcation? -llkooljaay

I think the only sales certification that is valid is proof of sales. The better your sales, the more "certified" you are. -ScotS

If you're in an industry or a position where a specific "sales certification" carries weight then I'd say it has value. -AZBroker

But what kind of actual "sales" cert would carry weight? As a broker, I imagine you have many certifications that go along with brokering, but are there any actual "sales" certs for brokers? -ScotS

Well that's it..too liquid. Do you get a cert in "solution based selling?" Or maybe "collaborative selling?" If you can master the Ben Franklin close, do you get an extra star? If anything, maybe I could see an internal cert like AZBroker kind of mentions.

Say in order to sell a piece of equipment, you must demonstrate your knowledge in that product and how to effectively communicate the features, benefits and impact. Maybe. -ScotS

That would depend on the industry or employer. Certain industries or employers might assign value to a specific sales training program.

There are many "designations" available for Realtors however there are no "sales" certs for real estate brokers or agents that I'm aware of which carry any weight with customers or employers. -AZBroker
