There are some other obvious reasons people don't post which aren't very dramatic or compelling but nevertheless their reasons:

1. really have nothing to say;

2. would rather read only;

3. can't put their thoughts into type well;

4. don't have a need to reply;

5. are very new in sales and are just seeking info

Others may be very successful - more successful in every way than anyone who starts threads and replies to them - but they are quiet, thoughtful people who keep themselves out of the communal bath.

First Post

This is my first post so let me introduce myself. I am a young sales person fairly new to the field (a couple of years consumer sales experience and very new for B-2-B). Thus far I have enjoyed many of your comments and found some to be helpful.

MitchM, you are right I am new and seeking info but I also want to participate and give my 2 cents. Lets open up a question based on a comment made by ColdCalling several moons ago.

We are all sales people and have to be at the top of our game for every sale. Our customers deserve our best effort and attitude every single time. Is it essential to continually make cold calls/meet with brand new prospects to keep the sales skills sharp? If so how often?

Thoughtful Questions

Those are thoughtful questions, Ryan. I would ask you to consider what you mean by "being at the top of our game" and "customers deserve our best effort and attitude every single time." Answer those for yourself.

It's essential if you want to make money to make cold calls consistently to find people who need, want, and are willing to buy what you sell and in that you should stay sharp.

How often is up to you and what you wish to accomplish. Also, do you have any other ways of prospecting in your business and what will referrals do for your business?

Its up to me

I agree. Its up to me and that is what I love about sales. It can essentially be your own business within a business. I have just started to implement a referral based selling method in my company and I will let you know how it goes. Any suggestions?

I just want to say there is some really good advice on this site, in my short tenure here I have picked up some things that I have forgotten about, and learned a few new tricks. I am truly impressed with this site thus far, and my hats off to the administrators for putting together such a place Kudos. Also while I have the podium I would like to make a sugestion that might help when the new guys post an introduction post if some of you seasoned profesionals would just drop a line saying hi, it will go along way, and make some of us feel at home Thanks for everything so far.
