Arrow An Invitation

Some members of this forum, including myself, post here almost daily. Others post every few days.

But there are tons of members who have never posted or have only posted a few times. That's okay, of course, but I just wanted to invite and encourage members who have never posted to make a comment or start a new thread or offer some advice or ask a question. The community will become even stronger as more people participate.

So if you feel so moved, please join in as an active participant at SalesPractice! Thanks!

Skip, there are a few reasons why people do not post. And one is ridicule. My example is the post topic "Fake it till you make it". I was trying to make a point about people's perception and another forum contributor stated my position was amoral. They simply misunderstood me.

Now I have thick skin, so no need to worry about me. But others read these posts and think twice about posting, just to stay out of harm's way. It is for this reason that the moderator of the forum should delete posts, just to keep the general feeling more inviting. What is your policy on this?

I have one more comment. Twice I have had the phone ring after realizing that I have posted and the post was not what I intended. I would like to keep contributing but not if I have to ignore the phone and not if I get caught because I only have 5 minutes to edit my post - as it may not give the right impression.

30 minutes would be more reasonable. If I can put it this way this is a strong suggest for change.

Excellent suggestion. The changes are now in place.

This is addressed in the SalesPractice.com "General Site Rules".

Very strong response to the situation - - I am both impressed and encouraged.

Well done.

Hi Gold, for the record, I am not the moderator of this forum, I'm just a participant, but in my previous post I wanted to encourage those many people who are members who haven't posted to make their first post, or lurkers to go ahead and join up and become part of the community.

Personally, I share some of your concerns. There are some mean-spirited people here, as I guess you'll find in any community, and some people who like to repeat their positions over and over and over again, and some people who self-promote their products/services ad nauseum. Others are truly remarkable, kind people, and want to either learn, or help, or both.

There's a difference between ridicule and healthy debate. I like healthy debate. I don't like ridicule. I don't care for self-centered "I'm the best and the greatest" type people.

I'm not sure how I feel about deleting posts by the moderator. That's a tricky thing. Gold, that would be a good topic to start a thread on.

Well Skip, now that we have talked on the phone, I feel I know you well enough to say a few things to you. And they all lead to keep up the great effort and attitude on this forum ... !

As for deleting messages, if one person insults another, I feel that message and the one that refers to it should be deleted. As if you only deleted the offensive post you would be left with one that does not make sense (refers to nothing). The mods/admins did the right thing in that case and, unless you saw it, you would not perhaps understand why I suggested it and why it was done. But it was for the good of the forum, for sure.

What I like best about your attitude and the people like you, is you put the best interest of those following in our footsteps ahead of your own and set them as the priority of this and any public discussion place. A paying-it-forward mentality. Excellent!

Gold, thanks for the kind words. Yes, there are some absolutely terrific people posting here: people who want to help and people who want to learn (and I count myself in both of those categories).

Skip, just thinking about sales regularly reminds us of stuff we have lost focus on. I count that as learning, call it relearning, call it returning to the place where you started and learning it again for the first time ... it is valuable.

That was why I keep up sales training (part time). Just to stay sharp - it really does help.

My dad reminds me; you are either improving or doing the opposite, there is no status quo!

I am certain there are many sales people who do not make enough sales calls to get really good, waiver up and down with skills in mediocrity and would not place much weight on this expression., Just as certain as I am that they are missing out.

That's why I pay attention when you talk/post!

(3 posts to go an I explode into salespreachers.com super-stardom!)
