Red face New to international sales where should I start

Can anyone give me some books, sites, thoughts on my new position - lining up companies with overseas (Asia) companies - either to have their product manufactured overseas or companies sell our products here in the states – This is going to be quite an experience working with big corporations like K-mart/Sears ect. even taking franchise chains overseas.

Re: New to international sales where should I start

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

I don't have any experience in international sales, but you might want to check out this site: www.marketingprofs.com

If you register for the forum, you get 250 points which will buy you one question. There are some very knowledgable folks who are members and they come from all over the world.

It would be especially helpful if you can think of some specific issues to include in your question there. Sometimes something as general as where do I start can be difficult to respond to.

It's a nice group of people, and I'm pretty sure you'd get some insightful advice.

Hope this helps.

Kathleen

Hi Jade, Sound like your going something like I've been into for years. You have one advantage, your in the states. I have to sell international from a desk here in Taiwan, though the occasional Trade show. A good book is SPIN selling by Neil Rackham. He talks about larger long term deals. Also High Trust Selling, but you have to work hard to earn trust when representing many asian manufacturers. The key will be for you to build relationship and always (I mean always) be honest.

Hope that helps and anything I can do just ask.
