Selling Graphic Design

Hi everyone,

I'm very excited to have stumbled upon this excellent resource! I look forward to getting to know some of you and pouring over the many invaluable posts.

I'm a seasoned graphic designer and illustrator. My services include web development and all print applications, from brochures and mailers to trade show design. Until recently, I've had a sales rep calling on clients. That is no longer the case, and so I find that now I will have to pick up the sales ball and start running with it.

I'm currently using mailings and follow-up calls to potential clients found in the newspaper, on the internet and through referrals. However, I haven't the slightest idea what to do once I get these people on the phone. I guess I need to develop some kind of script.

Anyway, any suggestions with regard to phone pitches, or having to do with the selling of graphic design/advertising services in general, would be greatly appreciated.

Having spent a few minutes on this site I already feel like I've discovered an island of wisdom in a sea of ignorance.

Can I also recommend you take a basic sales training course. This is highly recommended by Rich Dad Poor Dad fame; Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump, amongst many others.
