There may be a need Rory, I often find a tool that a customer didn't know he needed until I showed it to him, but I don't come at him with "you need this because you aren't good enough at your job to do it without this."

To show a customer something he needs but is not aware of you should come to him, not at him with humility and enthusiasm.

Your presentation was to come at the prospect with enthusiasm, but without humility.

I may very well have a better idea of what my customer needs in a given situation than he does, but if I present it in a way that he finds insulting then I've lost the sale no matter how much he needs my product.
