Would you hire yourself?

Would you hire yourself?

Not a rhetorical question. But highly hypothetical.

If you owned a company or was responsible for recruiting a salesperson, would you hire you? Why? Why not? Let's assume that a solid interview process takes place in this scenario, where you (as you) ask probing direct questions and you (as you) give honest thoughtful answers.

I'd hire me. I'd hire me because I'm teachable meaning I look at whatever new thing I do from the standpoint of knowing nothing - suspended past experience even if it's something similar - to determine what it is I need to learn to do to be successful.

I enjoy continual learning and always ask myself if I am missing something or not doing something I should be doing or seeing - I probe myself and hold myself 100% accountable for my actions

I'm willing to admit mistakes and have open discussions about myself to improve.

I'd hire me because I can foucus on the immediate for long term success. I can organize what I need to organize to track what I do.

What are my weaknesses? I can be very laid back and not drive myself when I should even though I'm a self starter - but I respond to someone prodding me if I need that from time to time which my current superior does do.

Also, I can accept less of myself and just lay back and enjoy life when I should be more proactive.

I've self started and taught myself things from scratch many times in my life and I can do it again - with the help of whatever structure this new job gives me and the demands it puts on me, I can be very successful. I love personal challenges.

So Mitch, the other guy is fired. You're hired!

I'd hire me for performing the tasks I am good at

This would all depend on the questions being asked. I feel no need nor obligation to answer irrelevant, by my standards, questions. There's a high probability that if you asked me about my childhood I'd in return ask you about your wife.

Me neither. But in this case Jackie's the one doing the hiring. Would she ask irrelevant questions? Would she ask questions about Jackie The Applicant's childhood? If she asked me those questions I'd walk.

Jackie didn't answer your question, Gary, she addressed a different topic - I think you know that.

Oops, forgot about that little detail.

No--I don't think so, Mitch. I don't know Jackie but my impression is she shoots from the hip and is very discerning. And I'm sure she just loves being talked about in the third person.

I don't know jackie much - I haven't been here long - and I don;t know about her guns or hips - just a comment that your comment, jackie, is fun to read but doesn't answer Gary's question.

YOu probably have a reason for that.

My ears were burning so I figured I'd better get back here and see what I was missing. Oh yeah, who ever said "Jackie" was a she?

To answer the question, sure I'd hire myself. While I haven't been in sales as long as others I have been around the block a few times. I'm accountable, responsible and I get the job done. I'm a great employee.
