Hello from London Ontario

As you can see I just joined ! I am a Real Estate Rep with 11 plus yrs experience looking to refresh my appproach to Sales ! Interested in combining
web oriented marketing with sales basics .Is the internet really the way of
the future for Real Estate Marketing ? The top guns in my area have web sites but do not seem to rely on them ? I have yet to see someone use the internet as a main approach to market dominance !

Welcome to the Boards!

The internet is always evolving with new technologies, and is a definite sales and marketing channel for any business.

But unlike the dotcom crashes of the past, you don't want to rely on it fully just yet. It is still maturing, but now with podcasting, rss feeds and blogging, businesses, small and large, are realizing again the importance of an online channel.

When you talk of your competitors having websites, anyone can have them, but effective use of the medium is another story. The leaders online are innovative, reach their targeted customers, create online marketing campaigns, and build an experience that their visitors love.

Good Luck!

Welcome to the forum! As a former Detroiter, we could probably trade "crossing the border" horror stories!

I work with REALTORS on marketing issues. I have seen quite a number of agents who get a large percentage of their business from the web. And, I've seen quite a few who publish a site and then let it sit. They are convinced that Internet marketing has no place in real estate.

So, I think, like practically everything else, you get out what you put in. Done well, a website can be a great lead generator.

See you around the posts!

Kathleen

Re: Hello from London Ontario

Hello Komoka Kid. Welcome to SP. When I relocated a few years back, I spent hours pouring over houses on the internet and put out feelers to many realtors about houses I'd seen. Since I knew no one, the first to respond, got my business.

Conversely, I listed my house (same relocation) with Coldwell Banker who touted their web listings... blah blah blah. They were slow to display the photo. The photo was uncomplimentary. Basic facts like square footage under air were wrong and corrections were slow in coming. I would say we sold the house (eventually) DESPITE the online listing! Maintaining an empty house 6 months after moving was very costly to us.
