need help! I stutter... how can i do my sales pitch this way

Hi all, I got this major problem with my speaking. I tend to stutter at every other word that comes out from my mouth. and that makes my days as sales executive a torment. whenever i do my tele sales, nobody understand me the first time and i have to repeat my pitch twice or three times... and whenever i speak to people, prospecting people, they do not understand me and just directly walked away from me. i've been trying to fix it myself for the past few years, but to no avail. and I dont want this to be the cause of the end of my sales career. anyone have any suggestion? your help will be much appreciated thanks Raymond

Raymond how well do you know your 'pitch' (nasty word)? Do you have instant word perfect recall of your 'pitch'?

My suggestion is to join Toastmasters where you can work on your speaking skills in a supportive environment.

Do you stutter in "normal conversation" or just when you are selling? Either way, it could just be nerves. You could try looking into talking to a psychiatrist to try to uncover some underlying reason. Other than that I would say just keep practicing, but I am assuming you have already gone that route.

I was an infantry medic for a number of years, and you would be amazed the types of physiological responses you can get to a psychological problem. Don't be embarrassed to afraid to check it out. I have had friends who had good luck with hypnotherapy as well.

Thanks for the suggestion guys, AZBroker: Yea, i do have word perfect memory of my pitch (wonder why its such a nasty word). but the problem is, when i practice, i can speak properly and normal. but once i'm out on the streets, i lost control of my tongue and i start stuttering again. Brad: well, i do stutter in my everyday life, not only in sales. but like what i said, when i am alone practising, everything is ok. but when im with someone else, then the problem starts. i've been to psychiatrist, and they did nothing. they listened to me, gave some words of encouragement, and handed over the bill. but maybe i will try it once more. Skip: i've been wondering whether to join this toastmaster or not, as i have one in my neighbourhood. will try to find out more.

That's excellent. Word perfect recall is important in my opinion. I feel that "pitch" is a "nasty word" because of the associations I have for that word. Could be just me.

Check out hypnotherapy... I know it sounds hokey, but I know people who have used it and rave about it. One of my sales reps is a hypnotherapist and a neuro-linguistic programmer. She hypnotised one of my other sales reps that is a bit "high strung" and he was cool as a cucumber for 6 months. It blew my mind. It sounds like nerves and hypnotherapy could quite possibly solve that issue.

Stuttering

Obviously anyone who has a problem with something wants to either over come it or eliminate it. Stuttering is one of those things and I can't offer technical or medical or any other kind of help.

I do know people have over come hugely deformed faces, missing limbs, intellectual limitations, tics, all kinds of personal problems to be very successful. Many have turned what others may see as a limitation or obvious flaw or negative attention getter into an asset.

When there is a will the way will be found.
