Consistency, efficiency, and effectiveness in the domain of personal selling can often be improved by upgrading one's knowledge, skills, and/or behaviors. This can be achieved in a variety of ways (e.g., trial and error, self-directed, formal training) yet few with experience in the matter will disagree that leaving such training to chance leaves much to be desired.
