MS Word menubar problem

This is a silly problem, but I am at my wits end after spending 3 days trying to fix this setting.

One day, I opened Word as usual, and ALL my toolbars and menubars were gone. (inluding the primary one that reads: FILE EDIT etc.) I used the help index, but did not find anything that works. Fortunately I know a few shortcut keys (CTRL+s to save, but this is driving me nuts!) I need menus!!

Can anyone help me??

Rainmaker,

Don't you hate it when software switches itself around??

Try going to the VIEW menu at the top (hopefully, that's still there!)

The sixth option down says Toolbars, and lists a whole bunch of them. If you don't get want you want on the Edit toolbar, you may have to customize it, but this should get you started.

Good Luck.

Kathleen

No VIEW. Only a blank document and a ruler. No menus whatsoever. Do you know the shortcut to open the VIEW menu (if there is one)?

Well, you got me on that one. I never heard of the menu going away - as far as I know it's an integral part of the software. You know, the top line that says File, Edit, View, Insert etc.

If you seriously don't have that menu, I'm wondering if the software is corrupted. If it were me, I'd try shutting down and restarting the computer.

If that didn't work, I'd try reinstalling the Word software. But, before any of that, I'd try to get some insight from folks who know more about it than I do. Try an Internet search for Microsoft Word Forum, or check out these Microsoft sites:

Corrupt data file in windows registry

THAT was my problem. I have no idea what that means, but I found a wonderful help tip on this website that fixed my problem: http://www.personal-computer-tutor.com/wordtoolbars.htm. This is a great site for HELP, if anyone is looking.

Rainmaker,

Glad you got the problem fixed. Just keep in mind that your computer's registry is like sacred ground. Not something you usually want to mess with lightly.

Thanks for the warning, Kathleen, as I did not know this. I uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2000, this morning, and even THAT didn't help. (In fairness, this tip did provide an alternative for those who did not wish to touch their registry.) I was deperate. (and never thought I would be so happy just to see those basic menus!)
