Getting to the decision maker
What is the best approach for getting to the decision maker of small to mid-sized businesses?
I have never called on small businesses before so I feel like the approach should be a little different.
I hate the thought of just asking to speak with the owner (sounds like a cheesy sales line).
Should I use the, "I was calling for the person who handles_____ with your company?" approach or should I use humor, "Is the king or queen in?" or is there a better suited approach for small, blue-collar businesses?
ps - I'm strictly talking about calling over the phone not in person.
