You need a good value proposition not an elevator speech and ultimately your name consistently and constantly repeated to increase exposure.

I think the answer is always "do your due diligence." There are some sites that don't handle banner ads very well (placement, rotation, size, formatting, etc) and some that don't handle text ads very well.

In a case where all things are equal I would choose banners every time.

You can generate clicks by writing a powerful attention grabbing curiosity creating headline and power packing it with an image that reinforces your USP.

You can also put your campaign image/logo/colours on the banner, or your company logo to create exposure through repetition.

When done properly (as per your question) you get the best of both worlds. Just be sure that you are placing your amazing banners on sites that elevate your efforts instead of undermining them.

Banner ads are still a very powerful tool and have high click through rates. -ricoramiro
